Checklist
We recommend considering the following questions during your tours of different facilities:
- How convenient is the home for family visitation?
- What are visiting hours?
- Are the residents clean, dressed and well-groomed?
- Is there a bed available when I need it?
- Are most residents out of bed?
- Are the residents interacting with each other and/or the staff?
- Is the facility clean, well-lit and free from unpleasant odors?
- Does the menu appeal and offer a wide variety of items?
- Do residents receive help with eating if assistance is required?
- Are telephone and TV services provided?
- What kinds of activities are provided?
- Visit the rehabilitation area and speak with the therapists if that is a concern.
- What is the ratio of aides/nurses to patient?
- What religious services are provided?
- What are the costs to me?
- What is the difference between a long and a short-term stay?
- Ask to see the survey report.
- With which hospitals is the facility affiliated?
- What medical specialties are available?
